The service

magneticdrum.co.uk is a historic computing site: working emulators, courses, and articles about machines like the LGP-30. It is free to use. Most of it needs no account; an account only keeps your own work, such as saved programs and course progress.

The emulator cores are free, open-source software, developed in separate repositories and licensed under the MIT License. Using them doesn't require an account here.

Availability

The site is run by one person as a hobby. It may change, go offline for a while, or close, at any time and without notice. If you keep programs here, download copies of the ones you care about.

Accounts

You must be at least 13 years old to register. The details you provide (name, email address) must be accurate, and you're responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity that happens under your account. One account per person — don't share logins.

Acceptable use

Use the site for its intended purpose: learning about and playing with historic computers. Don't interfere with the site's operation, scrape or republish its content, or use automated tools against it beyond normal browsing. The emulator is open-source, so you don't need to — see the emulator repository.

Content & intellectual property

The website's design, courses, and written content belong to magneticdrum.co.uk and are not covered by the emulator cores' MIT license. You're welcome to use them for personal, non-commercial learning and enjoyment; you may not copy or redistribute them. Programs you write are yours.

Historical content is researched carefully and sourced where practical, but this site is written by an enthusiast, not an academic institution, and mistakes are possible. Corrections are welcome — email the address above.

No warranty

The site is provided as-is, with no guarantee of accuracy or uptime. To the extent permitted by law, magneticdrum.co.uk isn't liable for losses arising from your use of it.

Termination

You can stop using the site at any time, and delete your account from your account page. Accounts used to abuse the site or violate these terms may be suspended or deleted.

Changes to these terms

These terms may change. The date at the top shows when they last did. If a change is material, registered users will be told.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
